Pay Range

$22.88 per hour

  • Operate Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, transfer trailers, roll-off trucks, or similar heavy-duty waste vehicles.
  • Transport municipal solid waste and other approved materials from transfer stations to landfills, recycling facilities, or designated disposal locations.
  • Safely hook, unhook, load, haul, and unload transfer trailers while following department procedures.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking tires, brakes, lights, fluids, coupling systems, hydraulic components, and other safety equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, CDL requirements, weight limits, and department safety policies.
  • Ensure loads are properly secured and contained before leaving the transfer station to prevent spills or debris on roadways.
  • Operate vehicles safely in high-traffic transfer-station environments, including areas with heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and public customers.
  • Coordinate with transfer station attendants, equipment operators, dispatchers, and landfill personnel to maintain efficient waste movement.
  • Complete required documentation, including vehicle inspection reports, mileage, load tickets, disposal records, and daily activity logs.
  • Report mechanical problems, safety hazards, accidents, spills, or equipment damage promptly to supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned trucks and equipment and assist with basic preventive maintenance as required.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling waste and potentially hazardous or prohibited materials and report unacceptable loads.
  • Assist with general transfer-station duties when needed, including cleanup, traffic control, debris removal, and maintaining a safe work area.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform duties involving climbing, bending, lifting, entering/exiting heavy equipment, and prolonged driving.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with coworkers, customers, contractors, and members of the public.

Typical requirement: Valid Class A CDL, acceptable driving record, ability to operate heavy commercial vehicles safely, knowledge of DOT regulations, and ability to perform physically demanding work in a waste-management environment.
