Job Summary
A Welder is a skilled tradesperson responsible for assembling pieces of metal or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metals into shape. They work in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and shipbuilding. Responsibilities: Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan welding operations. Material Preparation: Measure, cut, and prepare metal pieces for welding. Welding: Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead). Inspection: Inspect welded surfaces and structures to ensure they meet specifications and standards. Repair: Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps. Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and wear protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.). Equipment Maintenance: Maintain welding equipment in good working condition. Collaboration: Work with other tradespeople, such as fabricators and engineers, to complete projects. Skills and Qualifications: Technical Skills: Proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, MMA) and equipment. Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. Attention to Detail: Deftness and precision in welding tasks. Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Certification: Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program and professional certification (e.g., AWS welding certificate). Work Environment: Welders work in various environments, including construction sites, manufacturing plants, and shipyards. They may work indoors or outdoors, depending on the project requirements

Pay Range
$20-$35 per hour
