Position Title: Skilled Laborer

Position Overview

The Skilled Laborer performs hands-on duties that support construction, maintenance, and industrial project operations. This role involves operating tools and equipment, assisting specialized trades, and ensuring that work areas remain clean, organized, and safe. The position requires physical strength, attention to detail, and the ability to follow technical instructions in fast-paced or outdoor environments. Experience with metal stud framing, drywall installation, and sheetrock finishing is highly valued, as these tasks are critical to many commercial and residential construction projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Transport materials, tools, and supplies to and from work sites.
  • Perform metal stud framing, drywall hanging, and sheetrock finishing with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, screw guns, jackhammers, and compactors.
  • Assist in basic construction tasks including demolition, framing, mixing concrete, and installing fixtures.
  • Support skilled tradespeople (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters) throughout project phases.
  • Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace in compliance with OSHA and company policies.
  • Conduct site inspections, perform equipment checks, and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Load and unload materials, set up scaffolding, and prepare job sites for daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to assigned tasks, materials, and equipment usage.
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings to develop additional trade and safety skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of experience in construction, maintenance, or related labor-intensive environments.
  • Hands-on experience in metal stud framing, drywall installation, and sheetrock repair or finishing strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of basic measurement, math, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Physical capacity to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive manual tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license required for positions involving travel or equipment operation.

  • Proficient in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools, including drills, saws, grinders, screw guns, and compactors.
  • Skilled in drywall and sheetrock installation, finishing, taping, and repair, ensuring smooth and durable wall surfaces.
  • Experienced in metal stud framing, layout, and assembly for commercial and residential construction projects.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment such as forklifts, jackhammers, and compactors.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction drawings, following detailed project specifications accurately.
  • Knowledgeable in trade-specific disciplines, including carpentry, masonry, concrete work, painting, and basic electrical and plumbing support.
  • Strong grasp of basic math for measuring, cutting, leveling, and calculating material quantities with precision.

Physical and Mechanical Abilities

  • High physical strength and stamina for lifting, carrying, and performing repetitive manual tasks such as framing, hanging sheetrock, and finishing walls.
  • Excellent hand–eye coordination and dexterity for precise tool operation and detailed finishing work.
  • Endurance to perform in varied weather conditions, confined spaces, or elevated work areas while maintaining safety and productivity.
