Job Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates and bid packages for construction projects, with a focus on electrical scopes. This position reviews project specifications and drawings, analyzes requirements, solicits subcontractor and supplier pricing, and prepares accurate estimates to support competitive and successful bids.

Pay Range
$90k-$120k per year
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and requirements for each estimate.
- Prepare detailed estimates, including full quantity takeoffs, and enter data into estimating software for review and accuracy.
- Request and review quotes from suppliers and material vendors.
- Identify qualified subcontractors and suppliers, solicit pricing, and verify completeness against project plans and specifications.
- Itemize and quantify all materials, labor, equipment, rentals, and subcontract work required for bid preparation.
- Provide the Chief Estimator with a detailed scope review, technical requirements, and pricing prior to final bid submission.
- Upon award, review the project estimate, scope, and vendor quotes with Project Management for a smooth project turnover.
- Ensure timely completion of all client‑required forms, documentation, and bid materials.
- Draft scope letters including inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and assumptions.
- Maintain organized files and backup documentation supporting estimate figures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on project and departmental needs.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction; electrical estimating experience preferred.
- Experience with Accubid or similar estimating software preferred.
- Experience with CAD or 3D modeling software is a plus.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
Competencies
- Strong understanding of construction methods, estimating techniques, and cost control principles.
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and estimating systems.
- Proficient in performing quantity takeoffs and arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work through complex or variable conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and effective in team environments.
- Ability to work professionally with all levels of staff, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Travel
- Up to 25% as required for project or client needs.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office‑based work with extended periods of sitting, computer use, and administrative tasks.
- May involve occasional site visits requiring walking, standing, or exposure to construction environments.
- Noise levels range from low to moderate depending on location.
- Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
