A printed circuit board (PCB) assembler works to build electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCB) to prepare the boards for use. Your responsibilities in this career are to read wiring diagrams, follow sample boards, select electrical components, and finalize the boards using hand tools.
Inserting wires, using a heat gun, applying sealer, installing heat sinks, sockets, and faceplates, and press-fitting component leads onto the board are some of the duties you have as a circuit board assembler. You work with transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, relays, and resistors.
- Fine motor skills:
- Precise placement of small components on the PCB requires good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
- Component identification:
- Knowing how to identify various electronic components and their correct placement on the board.
- Soldering proficiency:
- Essential skill to solder components securely to the PCB, including rework capabilities for fixing errors.
- Reading schematics and blueprints:
- Understanding technical drawings to accurately assemble components according to the design.
- Quality control:
- Inspecting the assembled PCB for defects like incorrect placement, solder bridges, or missing components.
- Problem-solving:
- Identifying and resolving issues that may arise during the assembly process.
- Attention to detail:
- Critical for ensuring accuracy and preventing errors due to the small size of components.
- Basic electronics knowledge:
- Understanding the function of different electronic components and their connections.
- Safety awareness:
- Following proper safety procedures when handling chemicals and tools.
